Muscle confusion workouts have become increasing popular and the reasons is quite simple, they work. Most people do not realize this, but the fact is that your muscles are smarter than you think.

I’m going to throw you two scenarios, involving person A and person B, at the end we will determine which will build more muscles the fastest.

Person A goes to the gym every other day to weight lifting. He goes every day, but alternates between weight lifting a cardio exercises. He eats 6 meals a day, each high in protein, get the right amount of fiber, carbs, fats, etc. Basically he eats correctly in order to build the most muscle. After the first week of workouts, he could already feel the difference in his arms and legs. Therefore, he doesn’t change a thing. He repeats the same routine each week.

Person B is exactly like Person A, except Person B changes things up each week. Instead of performing the same exercises each week, each week he changes them up. He knows a wide variety of exercises he can perform, so each week he has new exercises to perform.

Question: Who is going to build more muscle faster?

Answer: Person B

Why?

Person B will build more muscles in the shortest amount of time because he is performing “Muscle Confusion” workouts. He is not repeating the same workouts each week, he changes them up each week. This way, his muscle do not get used to the same routine and it confuses them. This causes them to work hard each workout.

As for Person A, sure he felt changes in his body after the first week, yet he repeats the same routine, so his muscles get used to the routine and therefore do not work as hard, so they won’t grow as fast. Person A will notice changes after the first week, yet the amount of change will decrease each week if he keeps performing the same workout.
